The basics

The board starts on a clock. Everything else is one press of the knob away.

The menu has Games, Messages, Pet, Alarms and Settings, and also Install an app when a parent has allowed it. Apps you install appear as rows of their own. A menu you forget about goes back to the clock after a minute.

The screen and the battery

  • Screensaver: on the clock the screen goes dark after the time set in Settings (5, 10, 30, 60 seconds or never). The clock and the alarms keep running.
  • Power saving: on battery, a few seconds after the screen goes dark, the board switches its radio off and sleeps lightly. A press or an alarm wakes it. It never does this on USB power. (Settings > Eco sleep.)
  • A low battery warns at about 3.5 volts and dims the screen at about 3.3 volts.
  • Power off: Settings > Power off (press it twice) puts the board into a very deep sleep that uses almost no battery. To turn it on again, hold the knob (or the right button) for about a second. Alarms do not ring while it is off. A board plugged into USB stays powered.

Alarms

Up to 8 alarms, each with a time, a repeat (once, every day, Monday to Friday, weekends, or chosen days), on or off, and one of three sounds. An alarm wakes a dark screen and gets louder over 20 seconds, even when the board is muted. Press anything to snooze (5, 10 or 15 minutes); hold the knob or press both buttons to stop it. After three unanswered rings it gives up. In a game it only shows a banner and never pauses the game.

Settings

Set the clock, 24 or 12 hour time, when the screen goes dark, brightness, volume (0 is mute), alarm volume, snooze time, the PIN to use for new games, message alerts, engine sound, eco sleep and your player name (up to 8 letters, digits, dashes and spaces; other boards show it in capitals). Settings and alarms are kept when the power is off.

The time

A board with a clock chip keeps the time even with the power off. Without one, the clock survives a restart but not a power cut, so you set it again in Settings > Set clock. Copy from a board asks nearby boards for the time and takes the first answer.
